Join us on a PNG surfing Kavieng adventure at the secluded and remote Lissenung Island Resort. Let us take you surfing in Kavieng, located in the beautiful New Ireland Province, where you can enjoy consistent, uncrowded waves.
Enjoy the surfing Kavieng surf spots during the surf season (October – April), with a number of left and right-handed breaks located in close proximity to the resort. Boat transfers are included and provided by the resort, with the local surf guide monitoring conditions daily for the best working breaks. Waves average between 4-6 foot in season and most breaks are exclusive to the resort. Surfing in Kavieng is not recommended for beginners as all surf breaks are over coral reef.
If you find yourself looking for something else to do try scuba diving. The diving in Kavieng is AMAZING and world-class, so explore the underwater world between surfs. When diving in Kavieng you will experience wrecks, reef walls, drift dives and heaps of marine life!!! You can arrange all your dives and equipment directly with the island staff or book it in advance. Introductory Dives available for anyone not a certified diver.
If scuba diving is not your thing head out for a snorkel anytime on the house reef, or enjoy a cultural tour to a nearby village. Alternatively relax in your private bungalow and take in the tranquillity of the island.
This trip is ideal for both surfers and non-surfers as well as couples looking for an active tropical getaway.
Vanimo is PNG’s premier surf spot with plenty of waves on offer and a guarantee of no crowds. Stay at Vanimo Surf Lodge, a PNG surf camp located right on the beach, with accommodation in traditional huts sleeping 3-4 people. There are a number of surf breaks available exclusively to the surf camp, the closest – a peeling right, straight out front from the camp and other breaks in close distance to Vanimo Surf Lodge. Most surf breaks in Vanimo are over reef and suit surfers of all levels.
With a maximum of 16 surfers in camp this means that on most days you will be lucky to surf with any more than 6 people.
We are sure you will be surfed out after your Vanimo surf trip.
Sustainable surfing is about sustainable tourism. Support local communities directly when you take a PNG surf trip. The Surf Management Plan, implemented by the PNG Surfing Association, limits the number of visiting surfers to each region. All Surf Management Areas receive $15 per surfer per day, which is essentially an access agreement to local breaks between the traditional land custodians, surf tourism operators and visiting surfers. This means on most days you will most likely be sharing a break with just your mates and a few friendly locals, while at the same time helping to preserve the ocean playground.
PNG is surfing’s last frontier. There are notable surf camps located in Vanimo, Kavieng, Wewak and Madang with waves ranging from 1 – 10 foot between October and April for surfers of all levels to enjoy. You will find reef breaks, points and the odd beach break.
Surfing in Papua New Guinea is an experience not to be missed for anyone looking for a unique surf trip!
